Sell Like a Spy is about the idea that spies are the world’s best salespeople. Tasked with getting to know people all over the world, they must make the most difficult of sales – convincing someone to commit treason against their country or organization. Spies are in many ways a misunderstood group of people. Far from the world of superheroes they are depicted as in movies, spies are in fact exceptional relationship managers with skills we can all learn from – whether we are salespeople, executives, or just about anyone interested in growing relationships and connecting deeply with people in their lives.
I created Sell Like a Spy because I wanted to share the strategies and skills I picked up working directly with intelligence officers.
Working in corporate security with former CIA case officers I learned not only elements of the tradecraft they employ to collect information, but also how they network and accelerate the rapport-building process.
In addition to lessons from the world of espionage, Sell Like a Spy features insights and tradecraft from many other elite government officials. These include former FBI hostage negotiators and experts in body language, military interrogators, members of the special forces, Secret Service agents, and many others.
